Good morning!
Haydan Firth
Fractional Head of People | Executive and Leadership Coach | Wellbeing Expert | Workshop Facilitator
For those who don't know, I've been writing a weekly newsletter for almost 2 years now, providing thought provoking and insightful pieces of content to my readers.
It's only recently that I thought it would be great to bring this to my LinkedIn audience, so here we are!
I hope you enjoy the read, and I hope to have you back next week!
Time to think
I hope March is treating you well so far!?
I can definitely say it's been nice to see more of the sun, and I've definitely seen the positive impact it's having on people.
Although at the same time I'm hearing lots of people say they are in a bit of a weird place at the moment, which I had certainly been feeling myself over the previous few weeks, but no one seems to know why things are off!?
Anyway, I hope you are good and in a positive place!
I have a pretty blunt message to share today, and it's this:
YOU ARE THE PRIORITY!
I've just come from a week where I've had multiple conversations with people where they are feeling broken, burnt-out, and at full capacity, and it's having pretty negative effects on them.
The reality of this is that people are putting work and other people at the top of their priorities, and as a result, sacrificing their own health and wellbeing.
It genuinely pains me to see people driving themselves into to floor yet feeling an element of success because there inbox is empty, to do list is check off, and they've managed to attend all of their social events, regardless if they actually wanted to or not.
Since when was the metric of success about how much you can get done in a week!?
I don't know about you but that doesn't seem right to me.
I also want to drive home the point that I'm not saying there isn't success to be found in becoming a highly effective hard worker within your job and for looking out for others, but I am saying that creating those things should never be detrimental to you personally.
I guess what I'm saying is you're not really winning if you're not winning personally.
Just imagine getting to the end of your life, looking back and realising that all you did was work and look after others, and in the midst of that, not only did you forget to live your life, but you didn't actually have the energy to!
So this is what I ask of you…
I ask you to be a bit kinder to yourself this week, to recognise when you're pushing too hard, and to know when you need a moment to yourself.
This doesn't have to be a harsh change, it may even just be taking a lunch break (which feels mad me even saying that!!).
As you head into this week, simply ask yourself
What do I need to be able to thrive this week?
Quote for the week
?“If you want to have enough to give to others, you will need to take care of yourself first. A tree that refuses water and sunlight for itself can’t bear fruit for others.”
- Emily Maroutian
Recommendation
Feel-Good Productivity, By Ali Abdaal.
'Dr Ali Abdaal - the world's most-followed productivity expert - has uncovered an easier, happier path to success. Drawing on decades of psychological research, he has found that the secret to productivity and success isn't grind - it's feeling good. If you can make your work feel good, then productivity takes care of itself.
In this revolutionary book, Ali reveals how the science of feel-good productivity can transform your life. He introduces the three hidden 'energisers' that underpin enjoyable productivity, the three 'blockers' we must overcome to beat procrastination, and the three 'sustainers' that prevent burnout and help us achieve lasting fulfilment. He recounts the inspiring stories of founders, Olympians, and Nobel-winning scientists who embody the principles of Feel-Good Productivity. And he introduces the simple, actionable changes that you can use to achieve more and live better, starting today.
Armed with Ali's insights, you won't just accomplish more. You'll feel happier and more fulfilled along the way.'
For full transparency, I have only just starting listening to this on Audible, but I can confidently recommend it before finishing the book because firstly, Ali Abdaal is fantastic, and secondly, I've heard brilliant things from friends who have read it!
Bearing in mind the topic of this email, I think this is a necessary book for many people!
Life Hack
Always carry a bottle of water with you
Sometimes I feel like I'm really scraping the bottom of the pan for some of these life hacks, but this is genuinely one I've used for years
?It's as simple as this:
?It's so easy to go through the day forgetting to drink water, and that's actually quite bad for you. So the solution, carry a bottle around with you!
?Bring it in the car, to the office, on a day out, wherever! I'm not saying this will make you drink, but it will certainly increases the chances that you drink.
How can I help you?
?Here's some insight into how I've helped one of my clients develop professionally. Could you or someone you know use this kind of support? If so, get in touch!
?"I had the privilege of working with Haydan for the past five months, and I can confidently say that it has been an incredibly valuable experience. Hayden's coaching has had a profound impact on my professional life.
Thanks to Haydan's coaching, I now feel more confident in my job and equipped with a fresh perspective on how to tackle upcoming challenges. It's no exaggeration to say that I will approach future hurdles by asking myself, "What would Haydan say?" This simple yet effective mantra will help me navigate the complexities of my career. ?
I wholeheartedly recommend Haydan to anyone seeking a coach who imparts valuable insights and creates a supportive and empowering coaching environment. Working with Haydan has been a transformative experience, and I am grateful for his positive impact on my professional growth."
I hope you have a fantastic week, and I'll be back in your inbox next week!
