The GOOD that Makes India Shine

The Impactful work putting India on the road to development was reviewed by The jury of the 5th?edition of SABERA awards. It constituted of some heavyweights from a cross-section of corporate, nonprofit, PSU, and civil society selecting the winners of the prestigious awards.

On her association with the awards Meenakshi Gupta, Co-Founder GOONJ shared ‘By highlighting the role of civil society, corporates, CSR, and individuals across our society, SABERA is highlighting our interconnections and how each one of us plays an important role in our collective well-being

SABERA has been doing an admirable job by showcasing and celebrating the achievements of individuals, organizations, and communities working to build a more sustainable future.’

Jury Chair, Renu Sud Karnad, MD, HDFC Bank Ltd, sharing her sentiments said, “SABERA can be credited with creating a unique model for identifying, recognizing, and promoting altruism in society. The individuals, corporates, and communities involved in this selfless pursuit are the role model that India needs and by curating this group, SABERA is in fact, in a way contributing to national service. The sense of purpose and drive demonstrated by the team SABERA is tremendous and extremely infectious. It’s an honor for me to be part of the jury again for the 2022-23 edition.”

The work of shortlisted entries highlights the wide spectrum of developmental work being done across the length and breadth of the country.

While grassroots organizations like TEEIDI submitted their work in localized districts proactively impacting the environment through permaculture-based solutions in Darjeeling. PSUs like SBI Foundation shared their expanse of work across all 28 states and union territories aligned with the larger scope of the UN SDGs.

Multinational Corporations like HUL, and Dabur, PSUs like BPCL, and private corporations like Good Earth, and Eco Futures highlighted their work as Responsible businesses sharing their Environmental, Social, and Governance best practices which can be replicated across the country. At the same time, sustainable startups like Ecohoy and e-waste social submitted criteria-based information to be acknowledged as responsible startups. Vistara airlines also shared its overall commitment to sustainable and inclusive practices as a Promising Responsible Business.

Pepsico India submitted their work highlighting the unique sustainable farming initiative that is also gendered-inclusive. On the other hand, SWADES and AROH foundation submitted their work on the holistic development of rural communities and elevating multi-dimensional poverty respectively.

The subcategory focusing on health received the maximum number of entries where non-profits like CAPED and Sanjeevani Life beyond cancer showcased their work creating awareness around cancer and hand-holding cancer patients and their families. Cyrus and Priya Vendrevala Foundation shared insights into their work with mental health support services. What piqued the interest of the jury was the unique initiative of collecting and distributing pasteurized Human donor milk by the Sushena health foundation in Hyderabad. A perfect model that can be replicated across other states. Equally inspiring has been the work that BALCO does with the tribal community in Korba Chhatisgarh.

The education subcategory too saw a wide variety of developmental work from skilling raw talent by Industrial professionals such as BIOCON academy to providing access to quality education as Parthasarthi Balmandir trust and Bharti Foundation do. Nonprofits like ChilderensLove Castle and STEM learning highlighted the importance of bridging the gap for children in government schools inculcating and building interest in basic concepts of science, technology, engineering, and Maths.

The Gender diversity and inclusion subcategory saw a wide variety of inspiring work from working towards the betterment of the third gender by Chattisgarh MitwaSankalp Samiti to?L&T Finance holdings working towards Digital Financial literacy of rural women. VMWare and WinPE development shared their learnings in upskilling women in digital technologies as well as in the sphere of entrepreneurship and investment respectively.

A new category that was introduced this year encouraged organizations to submit their marketing-led campaigns addressing behavioral change. The inspiring work submitted ranged from corporates like TVS Motor and Coke celebrating their work with Para athletes and standing up for what’s right in combating violence against women respectively. Interestingly a non-profit Tarachand Ramnath Seva Trust’s work in inspiring youth for anti-addiction also made it to the shortlist.

Some other awe-inspiring work submitted included the Nand Ghar Initiative of Anil Agarwal Foundation working with women and children through Anganwadi's; ISRA’s technology-based solutions bringing government welfare schemes closer to the beneficiaries; PVR Nest’s Pink centers providing safe and inclusive space for sanitation, breastfeeding, and access to menstrual hygiene solutions.

The coveted awards will also acknowledge Individuals as Responsible Business heads and endorse the commitment of a lifetime in the development sector through the Lifetime achievement trophy.

The awards will be held physically on December 7th, 2022 The speakers at the summit preceding the awards will include Padma Shri Dr. Bibek Debroy, Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India; Raj Mariwala, Director Mariwala Health initiative;?and Renu Sud Karnad MD HDFC Ltd amidst others.?The prestigious awards aim to initiate a transformative journey for the nation by highlighting ESG and SDG-aligned best practices in particular, and social consciousness at large.?
