So you’ve now got a shit hot resume ("Is your resume 2020 ready?" ), applied for those boujey roles ("Before you click "Apply" ) and you’ve just secured yourself an interview for your dream role. What do you do next?
Prep and research
- Research the company, person interviewing you and review the JD/advert
- Have a look at the companies LinkedIn, Website & glassdoor
- Make note of anything you’d like to bring up in interview
- Always try to have at least 5 questions that you would like to find out more about, What is important to you?!
Dress to impress
- Dress appropriately - wear business attire appropriate for the role, while still making sure you feel comfortable
- First impressions count
- If you are smoker try to avoid having one before heading in
- Pop a mint in and breathe, you got this!
Location
- Plan your route prior to the day of your interview and beware of busier travel periods, I would even suggest to organise interviews outside peak hours to save any added stress of traffic
- By bus, train, magic carpet or plane, check your route
- Driving in – check parking out close to where you need to be
- Nothing worse than turning up late or running through the door a sweaty mess out of breath
Punctuality
- Be prompt but keep in mid people are busy and you have a time locked in. Its highly likely the person is busy so turning up more than 15 minutes early isn’t ideal
Time to shine
- Be confident, make eye contact, and begin with a strong handshake
- Show interest and enthusiasm in the interview, nothing worse than being sat in a room interviewing a sack of potatoes
- Try not to fidget
- Remember it's just as important for the interviewer to sell the benefits of working at their business, as it is for you to impress your next potential employer
- Ask those questions you prepared earlier when researching
- A great final question to better get a read on the process and where you are up to is What are the next steps? Where are they up to in the process?
- Thank them for their time
Feedback
- If you applied directly they should give you a timeline on when you are likely to hear back (good question to ask btw)
- If you went through an agency I would be giving them a buzz after and letting them know how it went, what was asked and if you are still keen on the role so they can chase for the feedback for you
What is your go to question to ask in an interview?
Thanks again for reading troops! I really appreciate you taking the time out your day. Check in next week to read “Deal or No deal”
