Good is no longer good enough.
In software land, when I was a wee boy, a launch product or MVP used to crash at every click and look like Comic Sans made love to MS-DOS.
Mid naughties the web started to get smart and pretty, but you could still kind of release a semi-clumsy early release app and people would use it. Google was great at this. Just think back to the Times New Roman primary colour dog poop products we used to lovingly put up with (Mainly because they were free).
And THEN the tensies hit and it has to be super-polished out of the block or you'll be dropped quicker than Jeremy Corbyn at a Shabbat dinner.
But. Now we're moving into the twenties punters will take no prisoners, and they'll move on fast. If you're in startup, not only does your app or product have to look great but it has to perform. And I mean really perform. So if you're building product remember - look, feel and function is all becoming commoditised. Low code, no-code, brand and design is now at everyone's fingertips at low or no cost.
Good now needs to be f*cking GREAT. Your clients will pick it up and need to think WOW, how does it do that?! That's incredible, I want to lick it and keep it in my hand forever and show all my friends and twirl in the playground with it. I. Can. Not. Live. Without. This. Thing.
How will you compete with that?
This is why seed capital is always creeping into higher numbers.
