Good lives on a healthy planet
At Australia reMADE, we exist to be architects of hope and possibility, within a network of reMAKERS all doing our part to build more of the world we want. I’ve been weirdly thrilled this year to dive into some really big questions and ideas for what we truly want from our economy, with leaders working on economic systems change in all sectors and spaces.?
Our latest conversations on the reMAKERS podcast include:
Each one of the conversations on the podcast this season has helped shape our thinking, and we’re so proud to share the final article in our three-part series.
The Road to Wellbeing: Policies worth putting on the map
In our latest blog, we've honed in on policies that would be life-changing for how we live and work, that have existing scholarship behind them, are gathering steam and ready for some serious people power.
How would these policies change your life, your workplace, your family, your community? Check out our top three now and let us know what you think.?
I began my remaking economics deep-dive earlier this year having previously been intimidated by economics.? If money rules the world, then those with real power speak and study money – not democracy or nature or community or climate action or parenting or love.? The economy reigns supreme, we’re told, and with all the jargon, charts and quarterly reports, it’s best left to experts to decode and debate.?

I no longer feel that way. As I wrote in part 1, I now see the ‘econobabble’ as a very big castle wall, used to keep the rest of us feeling na?ve and intimidated, instead of angry at some of the decisions being made, or purposeful and confident about what we can create. ?
So it comes back to the very premise of an Australia reMADE: that we get to ask, to challenge, to renegotiate; and to joyfully join with others breathing life into the country of our dreams.?
So what do we really want for humanity’s future, at this juncture of disruption and crisis, hope and possibility?
There is suffering right now, so poignantly felt, that reminds us that progress is not linear or inevitable; that the arc of the moral Universe is indeed long. But we don’t give up, or refuse to pay attention to solutions and bright spots. Everything we take for granted today once sounded like fantasy to somebody’s grandparents.
Maybe what you really want for Christmas is peace, and an economy that affords us all good lives on a healthy planet? You are not alone. Keep reMAKING.
With hope and possibility,
Lily, for the Australia reMADE team

1 年Some feedback from an older person within my local church community, who doesn't use social media: "I just connected to the reMakers podcast and listened to Season 3 - Episode 1 "reMaking Economics 101" Stephen Hail and Gabrielle Bond.?For once in my life I have found economists who make sense to me because as they say our traditional economists must move to recognizing the limits to endless growth and acknowledge the importance of the 9 planetary boundaries outlined by Johan Rockstrom." (David A. - Mt Eliza, VIC) Early next year we hope to explore whether we might be able to curate a local space for exploring what some of this ideas might look like in our own contexts, both as households and communities! Cheering you all on, and so grateful for your important work ??????
