Good.

Navy seal, best selling author, and podcaster Jocko Willink teaches that whenever things are totally messed up and you don't have the resources you need to accomplish the mission (run your business) and things look really bad, that this is actually... "Good".

Here's his actual quote:

Oh, the mission got canceled? Good… We can focus on another one.

Didn’t get the new high-speed gear we wanted? Good… We can keep it simple.

Didn’t get promoted? Good… More time to get better.

Didn’t get funded? Good… We own more of the company.

Didn’t get the job you wanted? Good… Go out, gain more experience, and build a better resume.

Got injured? Good… Needed a break from training.

Got tapped out? Good… It’s better to tap out in training than tap out on the street.

Got beat? Good… We learned.

Unexpected problems? Good… We have to figure out a solutions

Jocko's excellent point is a paradox- when things are bad- that's "Good" - because it leads to solutions and better outcomes.

I love that.

When in the day to day of our operations it is so easy to get stuck on the problems, that we can't see that the problem is leading us not only to a solution - but an entirely new way of doing business that we would have NEVER seen without the problem.

Navy Seals are focused on one thing and one thing only: Accomplish the mission - no matter what, no matter how, it must be done.

Focusing on the problem won't accomplish the mission. Focusing on solutions will.

I think that's a great business lesson.

Yesterday I listened to an interview with a business owner who stated "I know that in 5-10 years there will be interviews with people who say "I made millions and billions during the covid crisis, because I shifted my business model" (Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos not included:)

Good.

In another life a younger, thinner version of this author stepped off a bus in San Antonio Texas and entered basic training for the U.S Air Force, our flight (group in basic training) chose the motto "Failure is not an option" to print on our flag and our t-shirts- it has stuck with me ever since then.

Now, more than ever is the time when things not going as planned is"GOOD", and when "Failure is not an option."

How will you shift your business and life to "GOOD" ?

Ahmet Efeo?lu I wish I could have heard that! Jocko is one interesting guy for sure! One day I think I will be successful if I have 1% of the discipline and drive he has.

I actually read the articl in Jocko's voice Jason. I love that video. It is a hard mindset I found the way he keeps it is that Jocko has rituals that he follows from getting up 4.30 to working out. And those small things that are in his control no matter the struggle keeps the day going. Hopefully, I can treat it as well as his. Right now, I am changing my mindset through activities. If I am down I take a cold shower to reset. One day maybe!
