The “Good Guys†Third in a series. The people along the way that have made 40 years in the Real Estate business worth-while.
This Third installment is dedicated to a remarkable Woman, Noma Dalzell. When I met Noma, it was in a beautiful 5400 Square Foot Block Warehouse Building at Franklin and Preble Avenues, that was, I am sure, the Worlds largest doghouse, housing her Doberman Pinscher. She wanted to lease the building, even if it meant evicting her Dog. We had many a meeting in that shut down facility that had formerly housed her business, Coffee Break, Inc. She handled outside sales for the vending company and had major accounts such as; the US Post Office, Duquesne Light and Mellon Bank.
She detailed for me the events leading up to her shutting down the company. I passed a great deal of time sitting in the warehouse just listening to her and the history of Coffee Break, Inc.
Noma Dalzell was honest, fair and also an admirably strong and up-front business woman. Surely one of the most interesting people I have encountered in my 40 year history in the real estate business. We were friends, we talked a great deal, and did many a lunch.
I became engaged to the woman that was to become my wife. Noma offered to take us out to dinner in honor of our engagement. We met at the Tin Angel on Mount Washington, the three of us. I had no idea that it was a recipe for disaster. A strong business woman and my wife-to-be, who was a Doctor of Psychology !!! Things were pretty good, I think, until Noma said, “I don't like women, you’re ok because you are with him.â€
I leased the building for 20 years. Noma had moved to Laguna Beach California. Any time I pass that building, I have fond memories of a remarkable woman.
