A Good Game Of Hats And Masks

It was definitely a day to remember with my having been in near non-stop motion from the time I arrived at office early this morning, until I arrived home far later than normal, but at least I managed to get a small property sold, so perhaps I'll be able to have a chicken in the pot at the end of this month.

With the glut of real estate agents we have in this village, along with all the 'connected friends' who promote their favorite Realtors whenever possible, the competition couldn't greater, but as I've said a number of times, I couldn't be more thankful and grateful for the loyal and faithful clients and customers who've supported me over these many years. You can be sure I thank them on a regular basis.

It seems today was the day I was all ears and listening to more than one who was sharing some very unfortunate and definitely unnecessary things that were placed in their laps, and only because they were far too trusting. Just because someone is a banker or an attorney, doesn't make them angels in every sense of the word, and after hearing what I did, I reminded them that the best way to make what happened all the more bearable, was to get the word out to all their friends and relatives who live in North Iowa, and hopefully those wrong-doers will start feeling the effects of their faults and oversights in the back pockets. My last words to the both of them was, “Just remember, we don't live in a city, but rather a bloated village where everyone talks.” Some of what was told me, actually gave me chills up my arms. Yes, it was that bad.

Because my mower broke down yesterday, I had to take an hour off and go mow a property which was looking pretty shaggy, and what made it take all the longer was my having to first pick up large sticks. Thank goodness I had my dark glasses on because there were some very strange happenings taking place down at a street corner where I believe some guy was higher than a kite, and I say that because he had his shoes off and rolling around on the pavement. There were people trying to get him up, but each time they tried, he resisted until he likely 'sober-up' enough to realize where he was and what he was doing. Keep in mind it was only early afternoon when all this was taking place.? There's no question we've got a drug problem in this city.

I'm starting to get just a little bit hot under my collar over not yet in possession of the title work I'm needing for a closing that's supposed to be taking place this Friday. In spite of my having sent a message early this morning to the closing company, I've yet to hear back from them. As far as I'm concerned, our over-all sales volume is not even in the same solar system as it was back when the interest rates were low, along with those impetuous pandemic buyers out buying whatever they could get under contract, so being too busy, won't be a believable excuse.

I'd say the highlight of my day was a conversation I had with a gentleman who's been in business for long enough to know when someone's trying to 'grease' him, in hopes of getting some sort of deal out of him. I couldn't help bringing up people we both know who're died in the wool chameleons, and you can bet I was bringing up specific examples. He laughed after I finished talking about the last one and then saying, “Why do you think nobody's married her since hubbie walked out years ago.” Yes, she definitely plays a good game of hats and masks, and in spite of her polished techniques, it didn't take me long to see thru it, and you can bet I'm now distancing myself from her all the more. Before hanging up he did have to admit, I've got one heck of a memory when it comes to those shenanigans.

It seems just about every time we get into discussion about various people and their mindsets, we find that similar things have happened to the both of us. For example, I once told him about my conviction that a certain Realtor has been grinding an axe for me from the first time we crossed paths decades ago, and to this day, I'll bet my eye teeth that if I confronted him about the many intentional hardships he caused me and my business, he'd swear I was completely wrong. Well, I still have an email in my possession from a past client who said 'so and so' wouldn't write an offer on it unless I no longer had that property listed, and at the time, the seller was desperate to get it sold, and ended up agreeing to his wishes. Yes, it's always good to keep records of the iniquities of others, and only because you just may need the proof when required. To this day, I haven't a clue as to why he feels the way he does about me. I sometimes think it's jealousy, but then I have to stop such thoughts when reminding myself that I'm really not high enough on any form of ladder to be worthy of jealousy. Gee, if that indeed be the case, then someone had better tell him to raise his sights far higher.

Tonight's One-liner is: If I didn't have something to worry about, I'd invent it.
