A Good Day To Walk In The Forest
By Larry Tyler
The deep chill of winter has passed, and the barren tree limbs now turn green as the leaves return. It is a time of rebirth and new growth. I walk this path today with a lighter heart and the sunshine and warmth quicken my steps. The desolation of winter has passed, color and vibrant leaves fill the trees. The birds are singing as they feed their babies and the forest feels alive again.
It is a good day to walk in the forest with the light filtering through the trees. I find myself feeling alive and full of energy as the new season begins. I am a little sad at winter passing, but the sight of the hummingbirds fill me with wonder. They come back every year at this time. Come and walk with me for a while and let us talk of the songs we will write and the stories we will tell. Today I go to my cottage in the deep forest where I will open the windows and find my favorite book. Perhaps today I will write a poem so that I can share the joy and excitement of the arrival of spring.
In our life, we too have our seasons where we are barren and feel like we are dormant just waiting for the first sprouts of green to push its way through the soil. We often need the winter of life to rest and rejuvenate that which is at rest. We must know our seasons so that we don’t stay too long in a dormant time. We lift ourselves up and break through the earth to bask in the sunlight and grow, to bloom and flower into our best self. After all, it is what the spring promises.
It is a cycle of rebirth raising us to our full potential, to fulfill the promise of our seasons is what we strive for in life. While at rest for the winter we are still active writing, working, painting, reading and doing the things we need to prepare for spring. My garden while still beautiful in winter is a place for solace and contemplation. There are many things I need to do to prepare my garden for the coming spring. I trim, prune and rake away the winter’s protective dead leaves baring the soil to the sunlight. It is a sacred promise of rebirth and renewal.
Today the flowers are in full bloom filling the garden with color and fragrance. The branches are full providing material and places to build nests. The berries are ripe and tantalizing treats provide food for the baby birds. The pond is full of baby ducks and geese another generation born on our pond. They too will return next year to birth their offspring. The hummingbirds will come to dance around the flowers with the butterflies and bees. The cycle complete until autumn looms on the horizon.
Point Of View
Today I will sit in the garden and play my part for beauty is at its best when shared. The beauty always amazes us and each day a new view of the garden will appear, a new flower blooming and new birds at the feeders. The seasons are many and I love to walk through the forest during any season. I always am better for having taken the walk. It is a good day to walk in the forest and then work in the garden. They both heal the poet’s soul to make the words flow.
