Good bye, BBB - Hello Berlin?!

Good bye, BBB - Hello Berlin?!

Now its official. This was the last show of the formerly leading international fashion trade fair Bread & Butter. Thanks a lot for your inspiration, for the international eye on Berlin and though on the fashion spot of Germany. Since the closing of cpd I was not in my dreams thinking about an trendsetting fair to be set up in Germany. Premium was there and is there and its reputation is enormous thanks to Anita Tillmanns drive to excellence. But also this fair took advantage of the international visitors that were coming to Berlin since the the return of the Bread and Butter  in 2009. Even the big Pret-a-Porter Paris was anxiously looking to Berlin in 2012 and changed its date prior to the Berlin date to be more on the early side. It didn't really work out. But it's gone and with Zalando on board it will never be as before. This also shows me the short periods and fast changing in fashion business. Yesterday a star, today a nobody. Karl-Heinz Müller was the star, the square hero, the visionary type of guy. It was growing and growing, but suddenly it's lost its root of steadily changes and innovation. And being established and a leader of a category it's not that easy to go through walls and change things without taking people by the hand. It's not size that matters, it's the mix of accepting what is the demand of the market and on the other hand showing what can be the future of fashion. I am still dreaming about one day this will become true. In these times Berlin has lost a lot of its former status of being a fashion capital. It's more like the cpd way: You have to be there, but it's not like you really enjoying it. Bread and Butter, I miss you. Good luck, Berlin! Anyway, see you next time.
