Good bye 2017, Welcome 2018!
Wow, what a year you were 2017, I will never forget you! So many major lessons you brought my way.
Each year I go through a thinking, planning and preparation phase that starts in November and takes me right up to Dec 31st. It’s a process I derive a lot of satisfaction, focus and energy from. 2018 brings another shinny brand new opportunity to accomplish new things, set new levels and hunker down to drive pre-existing objectives into reality. Each year is a gift that we all must cherish and I’m thankful for it.
Each year as a gift huh? Sounds a little Tony Robbins’ish, doesn’t it?
We’ll not for me, anymore. For the first 40 years of my life I’d fly through life doing the things I wanted to do understanding that “ya sure I was pretty fortunate to live in part of the world that is considered one of the safest places, where the quality of life is spectacular and I’ve got my health” but it never really hit me in the face like it did in 2017, that each year is a gift!
Why?
We’ll I lost something on July 8th, 2017 that I’ll never get back, my big brother. Greg was a hero to me and an amazing person who taught me so many things, things I’ll take with me through all my remaining years. Greg unexpectedly passed away after an accidental fall during a hike with his girlfriend near Harrison, BC and their passing’s rocked my world.
The old saying “you never know what you’ve got until it’s gone” can be a very difficult lesson to learn. My hope is that anyone reading this will pause for a second and be thankful for the gift of the new year ahead, another opportunity to do things and experience things that only another year can afford us. We can only prepare as best we can. You never know what will be next.
The lose of my brother overshadowed some really wonderful milestones in 2017 too.
My company, Horizon Recruitment, reached its 10 year anniversary which is a fantastic thing in and of itself! According to Inc Magazine 96% of businesses fail before reaching their 10 year anniversary. We’ll we are part of the 4%! That’s another thing to be thankful for! We’re not just surviving at Horizon we’re thriving. 2017 was the best year in our history where we set new revenue records and our team kicked some serious butt. Every person on our team is an amazing individual from those of you who have been there since day one to those of you who are starting with us on Jan 2nd, 2018. It’s pretty cool to be able to work with you all each day.
So here we all are, at the beginning of another new year. If you haven’t spent enough time preparing and planning for 2018 it not too late. Welcome 2018 we’re looking forward to spending the next year together. Goodbye 2017!
