Good busy leaders speak a rare language...

Hi there,

How was your last week? ?? I recorded a podcast with?Hustle Nation, inspiring today's topic.?

Chris Burns asked for my top advice for leaders, and I replied "Get a coach".?

"Lost in translation" is a common sign of workplace busyness. That's why?71% of senior managers find meetings unproductive (Harvard Business Review).??

My executive coach?taught me?how to understand and be understood. That's the secret of?clear language.?

???the why

We process information through various channels. But, in conversation, we signal to each other?our preferred channel.??

Imagine the sound waves.

Clear language allows?you to ride the same wave.??????

Sticking to different channels can lead you to ride separate waves, resulting in "lost in translation" and bad busyness.?

That's why productive leaders switch to the channel of others.?

???the how

Here're 3 principles they use:?

1/ Relevance

  • Your response solves a problem
  • Communicate only what they need to hear
  • Leave valuable words and eliminate the rest

?2/ Relatability?

  • Use ?the person's exact words
  • Create connection and familiarity
  • Write and speak for the receiver (not yourself)

?3/ Simple?

  • Create?short, jargon-free?sentences
  • Choose human words over acronyms
  • Limit each?sentence to one single?idea

Or as? John Harrison ?is teaching me now in copywriting,?keep it atomic.? ?

?? your results

My immediate quick-wins were:?

  1. Understanding and being understood in meetings?
  2. Reclaiming time from?"emails ping-pong games"
  3. Reducing time spent "lost in translation"

Work becomes productive when we ride the same wave.??????? ?

???bad busy traps

Two waves might intersect, but it's?impossible to know when...???
