The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly!

I have worked in Recruitment for just over 10 years, and have been exposed to both Agency, RPO and In-house Recruitment. I have gained some valuable experience from each ‘beast’.

As a Recruiter (whether Agency, RPO or In-house) we can be seen as ‘the Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. But how do you set yourself apart in such a demanding industry to be seen as the good?

Agency Recruitment:

Know your client / know your candidates: This sounds like common sense, but from my experience, this is NOT the case!! I received numerous emails off agencies, attaching irrelevant information and speculative CV’s that have no relevance to the industry I worked in. So what happened to picking up the phone and selling our services? When did emailing take over? We have a tendency to over complicate things – but we are not performing lifesaving operations here. We are here to supply a service to help your business succeed. Be personable and know your client and candidates.

In-house Recruitment:

Know your business / know your hiring managers: Again – common sense right? Wrong! How can you recruit potential professionals to work within your business if you don’t know the business, team and environment they will be working in? If you don’t develop good relationships with your HM’s your life as an in-house recruiter will be difficult. You can’t please everyone, but being adaptable to different styles of working helps you help them.

RPO Recruitment:

My time in RPO has been limited, but enough to comment. In my opinion RPO sits between Agency and In-house. You are closer to the business than an agency recruiter, but not as close to the business as an in-house recruiter. You charge a fee for your services and have to deliver on the project and SLA’s. You may be seen as an agency supplier from the Client and the HM’s, however, you should know the business as if you were an employee.

My Summary:

Be Personable, Be Knowledgeable, Be Adaptable, Be Resilient, Be Different, Be the Good!
