The good, the bad and the future of HR

HR, Human Relations. We all have some experience with them, good or bad, and those two words may provoke various feelings. As obvious as this sounds, most people don’t know exactly what HR does or what it accomplishes, so most workers can’t appreciate something they don’t know much about. HR departments can feel rather split in two also - finding a balance to support both the company and its people adequately can be tricky at times.
Just as personnel shifted to HR in the 1980s, it is now evolving into a ‘people-focused’ function. With over 25 years’ experience, Capita have, from day one, understood the difference that motivated, well-supported staff make to the overall success of our employees. We know the challenges you have in balancing this with limited resources, time constraints, tight budgets and a rapidly changing sector. We have also always provided all of our clients’ HR and payroll needs under one roof, with access to the following services via our integrated customer portals; including integrated payroll and HR administration, advisory, training and projects. We also pride ourselves on providing annual employment law updates and termly HR newsletters free of charge.
So, in this era of digital change from the uncertainty of the COVID-19, HR teams are shifting processes to keep current talent on track. With an overwhelming amount of changes, like corporate office closures and the temporary suspension of visa appointments with the government, HR teams have a lot to keep track of. Businesses can implement technology to combat these challenges and streamline immigration-related services, facilitating a clear line of communication between all parties involved.
Just as sales is rapidly evolving and changing in Capita since the pandemic, HR has had to do the same. Many companies have switched to a remote work model at a rate and scale they've never experienced. As face-to-face collaboration is replaced with e-mail and videoconferencing, HR managers have to do difficult work under difficult circumstances. Not only are HR professionals concerned about employees' health and well-being during the pandemic, they are also under the strain of processing the paperwork and providing solace to the millions of workers who have been laid off or furloughed. For employees still on the job, HR managers are trying to keep their workers productive, motivated, engaged and connected. All factors that are moving targets in our ‘new norm’.
If you’re in HR and would like to discuss how Capita might be able to support your HR Strategy and or your People Agenda, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
