Good afternoon, good evening and good night

Creative Director Chris Silberston just got back from the neighbourhood of Seaside, Florida where he stumbled onto the house of Truman Burbank. Naturally, that got us thinking about copywriting. The Truman Show is widely regarded as a cinematic masterpiece. It makes the perfect example of what makes a good story.

  • A compelling setting: a town almost too perfect to believe
  • Strong characters: authentic and likeable Truman contrasts perfectly with his insincere and shallow wife
  • A powerful plot: the film follows a classic narrative arc with a great ending
  • Dramatic conflict: Christof the director makes a great and very believable antagonist
  • Clever repetition: features constantly throughout the show to emphasise the true nature of Truman's reality
  • A hint of parody: the whole film can be seen as a criticism of the power of the media
  • Restrained use of flashbacks: building up Truman's backstory
  • A clear tone: humour, sadness, hope, fear - the film captures many emotions

We could go on and on. Our point is that great stories aren't magic. They're simply very well crafted. Put the same attention to detail into your copy as the creators of The Truman Show did to the film, and there's no limit to what you can achieve.
