Golfing to restore Kenya’s forests
Nature Kenya
Nature Kenya - the East Africa Natural History Society (EANHS) is Africa’s oldest environmental Society.
Kenya, renowned for its diverse ecosystems and rich biodiversity, is grappling with the depletion of its invaluable forest landscapes. In Mount Kenya alone, over 6,000 ha of forests are degraded. Many of the country's forests face a similar predicament. Human activities such as logging, unsustainable agriculture and encroachment have seen Kenya's forest cover reduce. The after-effects of forest degradation are now manifesting themselves in the challenges we face in our day-to-day lives, including water scarcity, reduced agricultural output and increased production costs, to name a few.?

Role of forests?
Forests are not just a source of natural beauty. They are essential providers of ecosystem services and goods that underpin economic activities. Clean air, fresh water and raw materials are just a few of the indispensable benefits forests offer. These services and goods are vital for our well-being and the success and continuity of businesses. Moreover, the role of forests in climate regulation cannot be overstated. Sustainable business practices, anchored in the preservation of forests, are essential for climate resilience and the long-term viability of enterprises.

Kenya's forests also immensely contribute to our thriving tourism industry. These lush and diverse landscapes teeming with biodiversity draw thousands of tourists from around the globe for unforgettable safaris, birdwatching, and immersive nature experiences, supporting community livelihoods and earning the country millions. Preserving and restoring our forests is not only an environmental imperative but also a crucial investment in the long-term prosperity of Kenya's economy.?
