Golfing With The Entitled....

Golfing With The Entitled....

Why do some golfers feel they have the right to play as 8 on the 18th hole or before?

As an owner, we pride ourselves on delivering on a 4 hour round. And with cooperation from intelligent golfers, we deliver.

But on those days we run into groups who feel entitled to join up into 6somes or 8somes (or more) out of our sight and before our tracking system can alert us, they make the move. One group stops in the shadows and waits for the group behind them. Ignoring the ticking of the clock and the constant march of the rest of the course behind them. They are entitled to this – in their own minds.

When we do find this and chat with the groups behind the entitled, that sense of entitlement is lost on them and they are less than courteous in their description of these groups.

For the other 70 groups playing, it is an unnecessary inconvenience which often leads them to ask for a constant marshalling (some suggesting heavier methods).

We tend to give the benefit of the doubt to all golfers -that they have the common sense and courtesy to realize they are impacting the round for those coming behind.

"Stay behind the group ahead of you, not ahead of the group behind you."

When challenged with this notion, the entitled group tells us “but it was only the last hole”. That is what it appears to be to them. But one group had to spend an extra tee time gap waiting for the group behind them. And this is where the entitlement is blinding. They fail to see, or acknowledge, that the group ahead of them is long gone from the parking lot while they are playing their last tee shots.

When asked what other courses they play as 6 or 8 – they are silent. It speaks to their selfish decision.

To the entitled, please give this a second thought when you think it is a good Idea on a packed course. It is not.

To the other 70 groups playing today – thank you for keeping common sense in mind when playing. There will always be the entitled and you did a great job of suffering them somewhat silently. We look forward to your next visit.?

Yes DM , you are right . Baseball has a time clock , football has a time clock , but probably impossible for golf to have a time clock.

Wait til you hear about what's been happening in the Ukraine. Your life must be a constant struggle, Donald. Maybe try a gofundme account? It sounds as though your life is a constant struggle. Didn't your country fight wars to prevent just these atrocities on your pristine golfing greens? HOW DARE THEY, SIR?

This is very true of the shift in people in the last few years. While I cannot speculate where society changed, there has indeed been a change. Entitled is a great description, however courtesy and kindness are gone. So many have no respect for other users with damaging impacts on equipment like carts, pace, damage to turf. Alcohol being brought on the course is at an all time high. It’s a challenge to manage with poise and respect.
