Golf is truly part of my identity | Behind the Scenes S2
SMARTSCORE Global
Digitalizing all aspects of golf, connecting golfers and golf courses alike for an innovative golf experience
A brief introduction of yourself and your past career.
My name is Hero Kim, and I am originally from Korea and currently living in Taiwan. My background is diverse, starting with a degree in interior design. After graduation, I ventured into the construction and fashion industries before pursuing a Master's in Business Administration in Taiwan. During my time in Taiwan, I discovered my passion for golf and immersed myself in it. Despite being a bit older, I've pursued golf fervently, obtaining a teaching professional license within three years. While my primary role is as a business development director at SMARTSCORE in Taiwan, I also engage in golf coaching and various golf-related ventures. I feel fortunate to work in a field I'm truly passionate about.
What do you think of score management and how do you usually keep up your score?
Score management is crucial to my golf journey. I've diligently tracked my progress since my first round in Taiwan, recording details such as score, putting statistics, and GIR (greens in regulation). Unfortunately, SMARTSCORE wasn't available in Taiwan, so I relied on the GolfShot app. However, I look forward to the day when SMARTSCORE becomes accessible in Taiwan, as it would streamline my scorekeeping process and align with my ongoing pursuit of improvement. I will do my best to make that happen in Taiwan.
How many golf courses have you been to and what does golf mean to you? How do you usually search for information on golf courses.
Over the years, I've had the opportunity to visit approximately 40 golf courses and play around 200 rounds. Golf holds profound significance for me. It's more than just a sport; it's a part of my identity. As my name suggests, golf is my hero. It has consistently supported me and shaped who I am today.
To prepare for each round, I always review course maps from the app I mentioned above the night before, and afterward, I reflect on my performance using the recorded data. These records are invaluable to me, serving as a roadmap for my continued growth as a golfer.

Do you have a lot of regular golf buddies? Do you participate in any communities and do you think golf is a sport that helps you get closer with others in means of friends and networking?
Golf is not just about chasing birdies; it's about making buddies too for me. When I first landed in Taiwan, making friends wasn't easy. But thanks to golf, I have made so many friends through golf in Taiwan.
I'm part of all sorts of golf crews, like the KGST (Korean Golf Society of Taipei), IGST (International Golf Society of Taiwan), and local golf communities as well. Golf has this magical way of bringing people together, no matter their age, gender, or background. Plus, it's the perfect setting for some heart-to-hearts and networking sessions.
What does SMART mean to you? (in means of life, or a life saying, or a motto that you have)
Smart is carpe diem to me.
When every day is filled with smarts and smiles, life truly is pretty sweet ??
