The Golf of Life!

The Golf of Life!

"What we seek, we shall find; what we flee from, flees from us."

My relationship with golf has maintained its intriguing dance since a friend introduced me to the game nearly two decades ago. Soon, the universe smiled upon me as my dad was posted at the Air Force Station in Allahabad, granting me access to an 18-hole golf course. This opportunity became a part of my daily life, with at least 6 hours dedicated to perfecting my golf game. It was during this period that I realized my passion and desire to play golf.

However, life's unpredictable twists soon led me to board the corporate train on the marketing management platform, causing me to lose touch with the sport. Then came 2020, a year that prompted me to revisit my passion. Remote work and reduced travel allowed me to establish my workstation at a driving range. I invested significant hours each day honing my rhythm, swing, and stamina. Not even the scorching Delhi summer could deter my commitment; if anything, it strengthened my resolve.

Over time, I managed to make my way back into the 'golf circuit.' While I might not claim to be a great golfer, I am certainly better than average. Reflecting on 'the greatest game ever played,' I can't help but draw parallels between golf and life.

  • Passion is the Fuel: Regardless of your role in life, fueling it with passion is crucial to sustaining your journey. Passion pushes us to explore new avenues and persevere for the long haul. Early mornings, and long drives – all for a game – exemplify the power of passion.

  • Reality is a Roller-Coaster: In golf, as in life, every hole is different. Success and challenges intermingle. We must accept that life consists of ups and downs, requiring constant focus on the ultimate goal.
  • It's About You, But Not Just You: Golf taught me that my primary competition is with myself. There will always be someone who excels in different aspects, but playing to your strengths is key.

  • Perseverance Yields Success: Getting back into golf emphasized the importance of hard work. Just as you can't rely on luck in golf, honing your skills is essential in life.
  • Character Matters: An 18-hole round of golf provides insights into people's character. It reveals what drives them, how they handle success and failure, their self-control, and their interactions with others. It's a real-world resume.

In both life and golf, it's about the enjoyment and positive energy we bring to the game. Some of my most memorable rounds weren't about breaking records but cherishing the camaraderie and sparking a positive spiral that extends to family, work, and life. Embrace the 'me-time' and savor the journey."

Well articulated Abhijeet , it’s a great leveler ,where one day you play a dream round and on another you seem clueless on same fairways and greens
