Goldfish selling for beginners

Just making this exchange public both for the entertainment of those who "get it" and pour encourager les autres as part of my personal mission to improve social selling on LinkedIn. Names have been changed to save blushes.

LinkedIn Marketing enquiry

Hi Bill,

Hope all is well and business is good. I’m just reaching out to gauge interest in marketing through LinkedIn. Would love to set up a call if this is something that is potentially on the agenda?

Thanks

Mr. Seller, I am honestly about as far from being a target for you as it is possible to be. I wrote the book:

Goodbye.

Mr Palmer,

Thanks for taking the time to come back me.

All the best.

Now you see Anti-Social, when you wrote to me on the third of this month you were engaging in classic anti-social selling - unqualified, untargeted and poorly expressed. The fact that you received, read and acknowledged my response to your offering then have gone ahead and sent the identical boilerplate 1990's style pitch to me today isn't just embarrassing it takes you from anti-social to toxic selling.

The huge irony is you are pitching B2B LinkedIn marketing services and demonstrating conclusively how NOT to do it.

If there is to be any hope for you at all I suggest you:

1. Stop spamming aimlessly

2. Segment, qualify and target your prospects

3. Use a considered, relevant and fully tailored sales narrative to deliver something approaching a compelling value proposition

4. Invest in a halfway decent CRM and use it

5. Never, ever come near me or mine again

I trust I am crystal clear.

Goodbye.

This is very prevalent on LinkedIn. Annoying and totally unproductive approach to sales.

Bill Palmer I totally get why cold calling (tele-marketing) and email marketing is all about spam, after all if you are using these tactics, hope is your game. But moving this onto social just proves that the leaders in those organisations have run out of ideas.

Absolutely right Bill. Dreadful behaviour that will, in time, spoil it for everyone. I estimate that 1 in 4 of my new connections are the "pitch & pounce" type of person now who send me a similar kind of poorly conceived outreach. "Hi Adam, you seem very active on Linkedin, have you thought of attending one or my masterclasses to take it to the next level..." P*ss off.
