Be a Goldfish
I understand why, as young people, it's easy to idolize those who seem to know everything. Who have their "shit together." They bark orders and radiate confidence. They always seem to know what to do. We gravitate towards them because we don't have that confidence and they signal that with a little maturity, we too can become the masters of our lives. We too can have that confidence. We too can have our "shit together." But it's a false promise. As adults, we slowly learn that most of us are faking it with the hope that one day we might feel grown up and have things figured out. But I'm not convinced that day is coming. Life is too complex to figure out. As soon as you think you are on a path that has some meaning and kind of makes sense then BLAM, a life-changing event smacks you in the face. So you adjust and try again. You keep going. There is no finish line at which time life becomes easy and you get to coast. The secret is being content to play the game. YOU ARE ALIVE! What a wonderful gift. "The Obstacle is the Way" as Marcus Aurelius would say.
That's why I think we should start to idolize the flawed humans. Those who accept their flaws but choose to see better in those around them. We can transcend our shortcomings by helping others through their own. Enter Ted Lasso. Admittedly Imperfect. Ill-suited to the task set before him to say the least. He doesn't pretend to have all the answers and kind of Forrest Gump's his way through life with empathy and such enthusiasm for the success of others that they find themselves surprised participants in his scheme. That's who we should look up to. That's who we can show our kids and say, "Be like Ted. He knows something about life." (But seriously DO NOT let your kids watch the show.)
This is my weird way to say I'm excited for Season 2 coming this July.

3 年Such a good show, bursting with positivity. I've found the older I get, the more I approach things like Ted Lasso. But still got a long way to go. Here's to trying.
