Goldfish Devos* (that’s what the cool kids call em)

Several years ago, I ran across an article where a group of researcher’s had studied the attention span of goldfish and determined it to be 3-seconds long. Recently, I came upon some more current data that refutes the earlier finding’s and this group proved a goldfish’s attention span to actually be 3-months long. My first question is; “who are these people, how did they decide this field of study and how much did they get paid to conduct this study?” Well, actually that is more like 3 questions. At some point, they had to have a conversation with their parents about their endeavor. “Mom and Dad, I have found my life’s calling. I want to study the attention span of goldfish.” Their friends would soon ask the parents, “So, what is Jr. going to do with his PhD?” You can have fun filling out your own parental response but please keep it clean because this is a Christian and family friendly publication. I’m sure the people who did these studies are fine people and had a real and beneficial reason for choosing this study. I would look it up again but frankly I have the attention span of a goldfish. I am referring to the 3-second goldfish and not the 3-month goldfish. Those 3-month fish had to be the teacher’s pet or on steroids, just a bunch of show off goldfish. The 3-month goldfish must have all been females and the 3-second ones were males because we all know female goldfish don’t forget anything and male goldfish can’t remember a grocery list longer than 2 items. Great, now I’ve made all the female goldfish mad at me and they’ll never forget.

So, it comes down to the question “why would you name a devotional book Goldfish Devotionals?” Goldfish can’t read. Maybe the female goldfish could learn in 3-months but not the males with their 3-second memories. “Ok, Bobby Goldfish let’s try this again, say your alphabet.” He’d never get past the letter B. Now I have male goldfish mad at me. That’s ok because they won’t remember anyway. The reason behind the title is very simple. These short devotionals will only take a few seconds to read but hopefully they will be remembered and have some impact on you 3 months from now. We all live in a fast pace world and very often we don’t take the time for a daily devotional or Bible study. I hope these short nuggets will create a hunger to feast upon God’s Word in a more in-depth fashion.
