Goldeneye (and taking time to go to the source)

There was something inspiring, as a tech writer, to go to the place where Ian Fleming wrote all 14 James Bond Books. Breathing the same air, swimming the same seas, eating fish from the same family owned fishing boats, and even having a drink in the same bar. It has been on my bucket list for years.

I am learning more and more about Ian Fleming, and have become a bit fascinated by the character of someone who created an iconic brand, 007.

I took a day to have lunch at Jamaica Inn, where Fleming would drink with Churchill, and met Murray who has worked there for 53 years and even served Ian Fleming and his friend the eponymous shaken not stirred martinis. I never knew it came with a lime twist and an olive, two parts vodka to one part gin. Mr Fleming was a vodka man, I have been told. Full video on my substack article.

If you're headed to the east coast US I would heavily suggest a few days decompression on the north coast of Jamaica before you return home. Organise the pick up from the airport and drop off. Follow the travel guidance.
