Interesting story. I much prefer solo travel. I am very spontaneous as well, often booking things at the last minute. I do admit to not always following standard saftey, at least as far as being out alone at night but I have confidence in myself and am always ok. As for dining alone, I have been doing that most of my adult life and I'm 64. It has never bothered me.
