Golden Principles for Enjoying Life and staying away managing diabetes

Living with diabetes doesn't mean sacrificing the enjoyment of life. With conscious choices and mindful practices, you can manage your health condition while still relishing the experiences life has to offer.?

1. Only eat at mealtimes, never between meals.?

Eating only during breakfast, lunch, and dinner is important, not whenever you feel like snacking. This helps keep your blood sugar levels steady rather than having them jump up and down all day.


2. Eat purposefully. If food is eaten while reading, working, or watching television, far more slips down. Nor is it particularly enjoyed.?

When you eat, just eat. Don't read, work, or watch TV while you're eating. You'll enjoy your food more and won't overeat because you'll be paying attention to your actions.


3. Commercial ready meals are relatively unsatisfying and often contain added sugar. Avoid. Plenty of easy meals are made with fresh ingredients that can be microwaved in minutes.?

Pre-packaged meals and fast-foods might be easy, but they often have extra sugar and aren't as satisfying. Try cooking with fresh ingredients instead. You can make lots of yummy meals that are also good for you.


4. Avoid sweetened drinks of all kinds.?

?Sweet drinks have lots of sugar that can mess with your blood sugar. Stick to water, herbal teas, or other drinks without sugar.


5. Party, but pay back. Enjoy that special occasion. Life is for living. But after that, the next week is crucial: you must severely cut back. The simple bottom line is: avoid weight regain.

It's okay to have a treat now and then, like at a party. But if you do, eat healthier for the next week to make up for it. This will help you stay at a healthy weight and keep your blood sugar in check.
