It was already the early hours of Monday, January 6, 2025, when Fernanda Torres won the Golden Globe, surprising the world and inaugurating the "National Day of the Brazilian Queen." "Dona Fernanda," her mother and our diva, always knew she would win.
I watched the broadcast from start to finish and went to sleep convinced I had witnessed a historic moment and won a few golden globes. The euphoria and Brazilian pride that took hold of us reminded me of Ayrton Senna's victories. It also brought back the pride of seeing Rebecca Andrade celebrated at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Fernanda Torres, Selton Mello, and Walter Salles were ignored the entire night by the TV broadcast. After all, who could expect that an "illustrious unknown" Brazilian actress, from a Brazilian film, about a tough Brazilian story, spoken in Portuguese, would dethrone the renowned world stars Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Kate Winslet, Pamela Anderson, and Tilda Swinton? Well, it was a "zebra" surprise!
Three reactions at the moment of "our" victory announcement were beyond thrilling and emblematic: those of Fernanda herself, Selton Mello, and Tilda Swinton.

It's impossible to imagine the whirlwind of emotions Fernanda experienced in those seconds when she heard her name, kissed Andrucha, hugged Walter, and crossed the room towards the stage. More than enough time for her, being as multitalented as she is, to organize her thoughts and deliver an emotional impromptu speech in English, honoring especially her mother, Eunice Paiva, and democracy.
Selton Mello's joy was a lesson in how to be a man who recognizes, values, and takes pride in talent, while genuinely celebrating a female colleague's victory.
And Tilda Swinton's reaction was an example of sisterhood: yes, there are women who are delighted and cheer for other women's achievements, even those they are competing against! We must remember that a woman's victory is a victory for each of us. The sun rises for everyone.
In my next article, I will talk about Demi Moore's speech, the words of Walter Salles, and of Dona Fernanda in the next article. Hooray and welcome 2025!

2 周This year’s nominees are definitely representative of last century minorities and the invisibility of people who dared society towards the changes in place in Western societies. Hopefully the votes are aligned to the first decades of the XXI century.
