The Golden Budha

The Golden Budha

The origins of this golden buddha are not clear. It seems that it was created in the 13th or 14th century but it could have been created after that. The story of the Golden Buddha also reflects what coaching is and the process of coaching. When I was introduced to this story I was fascinated and decided to look into it.?

There are various accounts of the story but in the 1950s there was a monastery that needed to be moved and in the monastery was a 3-meter-tall clay, Buddha. When they tried to move the Buddha they accidentally cracked it. Upon repairing the statue they noticed it was shiny below the crack. As they started to remove more and more of the clay they realized it was actually made of gold, solid gold by the way!

To protect the Buddha statue from being stolen by Burmese invaders the monks had covered it a few hundred years earlier with clay. The statue is 3 meters tall and weighs 5.5 tons.

What do coaching and the Golden Buddha have in common?

When receiving coaching a person often thinks that the answers are outside of them. Much like the Golden Buddha people have a layer of clay. A person might not see their own value, all they see is the clay, much like the Golden Buddha. As you receive deep coaching the process starts revealing the gold under the surface. You start to see your real value.

The more we work on ourselves the more clay gets removed and we get to see our true value.
