Gold medals aren't only made of gold

February 27th, 2019 – A day to remember.

Around one month before this date, a mail popped up in my mail box stating the details of the XXIXth convocation of Birla Institute of Technology to be held on February 27th 2019 for awarding degrees to all the students who have qualified till February 26th 2019. Yes, now I will be a certified engineer.

Being graduated from a prestigious institute was not the only thing that was special about this day. The special moment for me was being graduated as a Gold Medalist of Electrical and Electronics Engineering department. Yes, the dream which I have never seen before was going to come true. You read it right, this was not my dream ever. But all the small efforts made by me ranging from attending lectures regularly and taking notes to preparing for the exams in an organised manner culminated in fetching me this pride.

Now let me tell you the most mesmerizing moment of the day. The moment when you visit your professors to take their blessings and they are the one to inform you that you are not only the Department rank 1, but also the Institute Rank 1. So yes, this was the moment which made this day a day to be remembered.

The contextual meaning of my name Garima means dignity, and I have always tried to maintain the garima of my name and my parents by achieving the best with my persistent endeavor. Proud yet demure smile on their face says it all.
