Going Viral On TikTok Gave Our Startup A Major Boost

As much as I advocate the value of social media marketing (I wrote a book about it), direct marketing still works.
Recently, my co-founder and I mailed more than 300 Outlaw Masks to players at the NBA campus in Orlando, FL., as our way to show support in the never-ending fight for racial equality but also to get our product in the hands of influencers.
Shortly after the masks arrived, we anxiously waited.
Nothing happened.
Then, the first player was spotted wearing Outlaw Masks, followed by several more.
Our efforts worked!
Seeing players wearing Outlaw Masks on gamedays via the social media channels for multiple teams is an overwhelming feeling that I cannot put into words. Not even seeing my book in my hands for the first time could compare to this.
To share our excitement, we took to TikTok with a short video of our initiative, which quickly went viral and gained half a million views in less than 24 hours.
How cool is that?
We then received a flood of orders, media inquiries, and outreach from players and teams across the NFL and MLB with requests for our masks.
The best part of this was reading the positive comments on our TikTok post from people who don’t know Reggie or me, yet they were happy to see us win.
In a matter of days, we went from being a newly formed startup to an in-demand fashion brand worn by celebrities.
Looking back on the last week, while going viral on TikTok gave us a much-needed boost, the power of perseverance, staying positive, and taking a risk cannot be ignored.
You won’t gain an outcome unless you first take a chance.
To build on our momentum, we are seeking brand partners to offer giveaways on our TikTok account and influencers to collaborate with as well.
We’re also looking to get the word out about Outlaw Masks through podcasts, blogs, and media interviews.
If you’d like to partner with or feature us, please contact us.
Or, if you want to support our hard work and persistence by ordering a mask, you can do that too.
Stay safe,
Carlos Gil
