Going viral will not help you on LinkedIn and this is why:

Going viral on LinkedIn will not help your business or job search if the wrong people are engaging and here’s how you ensure that they are the right people for you:

It's the quality of people who engage with your posts on LinkedIn not the quantity that matters.

You need to curate your connections and followers to ensure that the right kind of people are viewing your profile and engaging with your content. This means only accepting people who you can help or can help you. This means saying no to people. This also means removing people from your network who are from a past life who can’t help you in your current situation.

This means blocking people if need be who are the wrong target audience who keep engaging with your posts as they may also bring other people in who are the wrong people. You should also then create target lists on Sales Navigator Advanced targeting exactly who you wish to become your clients and when they engage with you connect with them.

They will bring more of the same to your network and your content.

LinkedIn is a very sophisticated data platform but you need to have a strategy and way of targeting the right people here and not just anyone. So going viral may give you endorphins and make you feel happy but it’s an empty feeling if all the people enabling your post to go viral are not your target audience.

It’s better to go less viral with the right kind of people engaging with it than more viral with the wrong target audience.

Chris. Virality for the sake of it often leads to vanity metrics rather than meaningful engagement.

Just as you stated above, the idea is to attract our target audience to our content and profile while minimizing the various scams and/or those looking to piggyback for their own visibility. Solid advice Chris, especially since LinkedIn is about to get very busy!
