Going thru an annual review cycle? How to hear what is not being said.
As professionals, we all receive feedback, often annually. Getting feedback is a key gift for improvement. It is easy to hear what is being said, however, it's not always easy to identify the important things that are not being said.??
Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your feedback:
1. Look for patterns: If multiple people are giving similar feedback, and avoiding other major areas of your work it may indicate an that you should explore the gap area with further questions.?
2. Ask follow-up questions: If something is not clear or you want more information, ask the person providing the feedback to elaborate particularly on areas they don't talk about.
3. Pay attention to nonverbal cues: Body language, lack of details or specific details and tone of voice can sometimes convey more than words.
4. Consider the context: Feedback may be influenced by the situation or circumstances. Note what they talk about and what topics, situations or events they don't talk about

5. Reflect on the feedback: Take some time to think about the feedback and how it relates to your performance, goals and growth. Consider if no one is talking about the area you believe you are the best in or only in areas less important to your work.
6. Seek feedback from multiple sources: If your organisation does not already do it, seek feedback from different people, such as colleagues, managers, or clients, can provide a more well-rounded picture of the situation.
It's important to keep an open mind and be willing to consider different perspectives in order to identify the important things that may not be said.
Remember, feedback is gift. Even what is not said. Any feedback is a tool for growth and development, let's make the most of it!
