Going Somewhere Exotic

How do I remember certain dates? Reservations. Ten years ago today I flew to Hawaii for the first time. Not much happens in January and I found a good airfare. This is my most recent trip. Hearing there are five different experiences on five islands I shall return.

Until that eventuality- travel gives me a future. The flight from LAX-HNL was memorable. How often are flights memorable? The initial flight was standard. Oh, Skywest. I never had a problem with them. Flight attendants are nice to me. The flight attendants on the westbound flight were older.

They were also residents of The Aloha State. You never really know where flight attendants are from. The Hawaiian staff gave facts on the state and made the final destination seem more special on the six hour flight.

Since I cannot do anything like normal people: I enjoy long flights. This was not a crowded flight and there was time to write. Some have joked that my journal is my laptop. It's a good place to cultivate ideas.

There were contests to guess when we would reach the halfway point. My odds were good yet someone else won the Hawaiian gift basket. Chocolate covered macadamia nuts, Kona Coffee and the best pineapple in the world went to someone else. Still, it kept me engaged.

Hawaii is unlike any state in the union. It was once a monarchy and Polynesian culture is acknowledged and appreciated. Anticipation was built by knowledgeable employees who created urgency. They did not work for the Chamber of Commerce. Anyone can make a city seem more worthwhile. This was a journey as well as a destination.
