'Going Ghost'

'Going Ghost'

While scrolling addictively a few weeks ago I got the advice to 'Go Ghost'; to forget attention & to 'just grow in private'. I was, as with most online advice not happy about this so I decided to look into what the opposite would be of going ghost.

I then thought about my experiences of the year so far and reflected on the role of a safety advisor and coach. What has worked. What has not. What can I learn.

I developed a little repertoire for myself as a result and actively check myself against it to see where I need to improve and focus. Still a work in rogress though!

The repertoire goes like this:

  • Present (for being present)

Prescence is a state of being that needs to be learned and practiced until it becomes habit. Click the switch and go present. Your customers notice this! Believe me. In your 'present' state you are very approachable. Be present.

  • Visible (for going public)

Being present is not enough. If you don't attract attention they won't see you. Work on visibility.

  • Connected (for staying connected)

Make connections with people and build on them. Always difficult because it involves building trust.

When you have reached a sort of critical point on these first three behaviours you must be even more brave and start working on the next two. Most of us get the order wrong and begin with the next 2 first. Bull in china shop stuff! Be carefull.

  • Reliable (for showing up)

Get people used to you being around and then show up at key moments. Get to a point where you are showing up reliably when people will need you most, and ofcourse the opposite is true. Just work on reliability.

  • Transparent (for revealing oneself)

Move your encounters to a deeper level. Learn from one another. Reveal more of who you are and they will respond when the time is right. You are pure magic and you are doing no one any favours by concealing it. Shine.

I have been in my PPE for months now. There is little opportunity to go ghost, by the way.

I added one other important thing recently.

This is all very invigorating & drains energy fast when you are having to build and fix things, so take care of yourself.

On the weekends I make a point of have long walks in nature and visit my favourite ducks with some treats, together with my bestie, my wife.

What do you do?

Stay safe! B=f(PE)
