Going Further Together
I’m very fortunate in my current role at Perdue AgriBusiness to get a bird’s eye view of how our company operates and succeeds as a bridge between farmers and product manufacturers. And let me tell you, there are a lot of moving parts.
In the 2023 fiscal year, we worked with 85,000 farmers to handle millions of bushels of grain. That doesn’t happen easily. One principle that’s helped us flourish is to let everyone do what they do best.
We trust our network of drivers and operators who manage grain-receiving and handling to do so safely and efficiently, just as we trust farmers to diversify their operations and grow viable crops each season. Rail, truck, and maritime transporters each know how to best move our product. We delegate expertise and trust our teams to perform well.
There’s a reason that many of our associates have more than 10 years of service with our company. Our people each know what they are doing. Ours is an enormous operation that only happens because of each of our associates, our farmers, and colleagues.
We go far because everyone focuses on what they do best. You can’t do it all by yourself. You could try, but my guess is you won’t get very far. Empower your people with the right tools, give them the right responsibilities, and then trust they’ll do their part. It really can be that simple.
