Walgreens understands the importance of creating a seamless checkout experience
Last week in Puerto Rico, I witnessed first hand how EMV is being implemented across the island. My encounters with tier two and three retailers indicated that many are still struggling with the fundamentals of getting EMV up and running properly, much the same as their counterparts in the continental US.
However, I had a completely different experience at Walgreens. Both local consumers and tourists from the continental USA and abroad were seamlessly interacting with Equinox L5300 devices, which are integrated with Walgreens’ POS system. Reliability, speed and clarity were consistent attributes of the experience. The customer-facing L5300 simultaneously displays Walgreens’ promotions along with relevant card prompts and scrolling item details, which minimizes confusion that can occur in bilingual environments. And Walgreens didn’t stop there. They have rolled out Android Pay’s combined payment and loyalty technology to all 8,200 stores in the US, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, allowing Balance Rewards customers to simply tap their phones at the L5300 to complete a transaction. This replaces the time-consuming process of entering loyalty program information, inserting a chip card for payment, and waiting for the transaction to complete
Innovative retailers like Walgreens value investments in payment technology that extend marketing capabilities and improve the checkout experience for their customers. Consistent positive experiences ultimately lead to repeat visits and increased customer spend. Opportunities abound to help retailers do more with their payment technology.
The new Luxe family of terminals from Equinox reimagines the payment experience, wherever it occurs. Every detail of the Luxe 8000i and Luxe 6000m devices—from the footprint, to the display, keyboard and the even the placement of the card slots—has been thoughtfully considered and meticulously designed, just like every detail of a brand's experience and customer journey.
This week come see for yourself how we are Changing the way you look at payment devices. The Equinox team will be at the NEAA in Boston. I hope that you’ll join us, and to explore ways that we can help you stand apart from the crowd and deepen customer relationships.
