Going Extra Miles Helps Whatever You Want to Improve in Life
I had a very delightful class with my Korean student yesterday. Delightful because she told me she already made progress since our first meeting on 8/14. Hearing this news really brightens my gloomy New York day!
During our meeting I mentioned to her that some of my former students went to take ESL classes at Bergen County Community College. However, going to classes alone, 3-4 hours per week, is not enough. For adult students, learning English or any skills, they need constant practice and exposure to the language.
That's why I give my students two daily homework. (1) watch one VOA news video per day for listening skill; (2) carry out one conversation with Americans once per day for speaking skill. I told her: you will see big improvements when you go extra miles.
In fact it's a pep talk to her and to me because we all can improve in where we want if we persistently go extra miles daily toward our goal.
