School’s over. The ring of salt is gone. You’re on your own now. Knight up and get ready to face the world.
You are freeeee–free to make your own life choices and free to face the consequences. I would rethink the definition of ‘free’ if I were you. Yes, it’s quite a transition from school to college, but here I am trying to make things easier for you. Better keep reading.
College can be a hoot and a half which is why it is easy to lose sight of things. When moving to college, we remember all the freedom we will get but not the responsibility that comes with it.
Many of you will move away to a different city or even another country for further studies. That is a lot of pressure. But what’s important is you don’t crack and make the most of it. Trust me when I say this, it is all an opportunity to better yourself. To grow. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned in life is to not fearopportunities because not everyone gets them.
MAKE THE FIRST STAGE COUNT;
School is where your journey begins and you better make it count if you want to do well in life. If you had a great time in school, chances are you will have a blast in college. Those good habits you formed during your school years, carry them with you to college and you will soar. Not only will you have an edge over the others but will also enjoy a head start! And to those who didn’t take full advantage of school, now’s your time to shine. Don’t repeat those mistakes that have held you down for so long. Break free.
BE A WALKER, NOT A TALKER;
I’m sorry but all talk and no walk makes you boring. How hard is it once you have decided. Get ready to work your ass off because that is why you are here. Everyone starts off eager & excited. You’re only a hero if you can hold on to it. Don’t let that enthusiasm for college fade. It should only get better once you start. College is a lot of fun, but it isn’t a party. To play hard, you must work harder. Planning on not missing a single lecture? Do it. Everything you had planned for college, make sure you stick to it. Else, it’s just sad.
RIDE THOSE INTERN… SHIPS;
Excuse me for being Mr. Obvious, but had to say it for those who still haven’t realized the importance of internships. Wouldn’t you agree that it is na?ve to ride a bicycle without training wheels if it’s your first time? Or a new-in-the-game acrobat performing without a net below? Be sure you can do it and that it is for you before you take those training wheels off or remove the net. College will give you a lot of opportunities to intern in whichever field floats your boat. Even if you end up not liking the job or the field, you have at least gained experience which is not so bad.
SAY “YES” TO EVERYTHING;
Except drugs, mmkay? Experience is the best teacher! College is full of things you’ve never done or never had the chance to do. So when you come across something new, try it out. Attend those seminars, take part in tryouts, sit for interviews, audition for plays, bands and dance groups! Even if you’ve done none of itbefore. You’ve got to start somewhere and sometime. Afraid you will make a fool out of yourself? Imagine how foolish it is to not find the things you love. Indulge in self-discovery for you are at the perfect time and place. Life is too short to spend it by doing things you hate.
LESS CLUBBING, MORE CLUBS;
The most effective way to socialize, engage and meet similar minds in college–the clubs. Not the ones you visit at night to get drunk with your friends. College clubs are the best way to be informed about what’s going down in your college. You not only get to do and help in fields you care about but also meet people with similar interests. And not to forget all the good it does to the college! And the fame and popularity in college that comes with being associated with a popular college club. How can you miss out on all that?
