Going against the tide

Many a times in our lives, professional as well as personal, we tend to go along with the tide. While many times it is the wisest thing to do, at times our life is defined by our efforts when we go against the tide. Many would say it is stupid while some may even call it abject madness. Going against the tide is successful only when the heart and mind are aligned for a purpose great enough to achieve and difficult enough for people to awe.
The very propensity to go against the tide is not a matter of chance or a matter of great planning either, sometimes it is a matter of huge self-respect and many times a strong will to succeed in spite of all odds. Many, in fact most people choose the beaten path, just to avoid altercations, difficulties and even backlash by those other set of people who just don’t think that you are good enough to go ahead. But in those people in whom self-consciousness is a big factor in their actions and words, going against the tide is simply the best and sometimes the only option they have.
But, why do that, why go against the tide when you can live a life as cozy as it can be. I do not know what drives other people to go against the tide. It could be an inner motivator or a past incidence or a bringing up in life but I do believe it certainly can’t be the genes. Those who think genes induce fighting spirit and an attitude to go against the tide are misled by their belief. But, yes, the way you are brought up certainly does matter.
People who have an inclination to go against the tide bring a lot of fighting spirit in the teams they work and the communities that they live in. They show the way in difficult times and do not surrender to difficult circumstances or people. They know what they can do and achieve by their mere spirit of not giving up. Such people are born fighters and if aligned and oriented in the right direction they can do wonders for communities and teams.
