God’s Great Promise // Jeremiah 33:14

God’s Great Promise // Jeremiah 33:14

By Mark Jordan

Jeremiah 33:13 (NIV) | “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah.'”

Today’s verse comes contextually in a very bleak time. Jeremiah was in prison. The people were in exile. The homeland was in ruins. All of this was because of the people’s persistent disobedience. Through it, though, we see that God reassured the people that He will fulfill His good promise. What is fascinating to me is this doesn’t just refer to the people’s return to the Promised Land, but the arrival of the Promised One…the Messiah! Psalm 71:22 assures us that God is faithful to His promises. Then, we read this in 2 Peter 1:4, “And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires” (NLT). That promise was fulfilled and found in none other than Jesus, the Messiah! So, if you find you are battling the ruins of life today, remember that God keeps His promise. The best one is we can now be assured that this world is not our home; Jesus came to defeat the power of sin that all too often ruins us; and promises to come again so we can be where He is. We still await the final fulfillment of the good promise, but Jesus said it, and now we know He is God's great promise!!!
