God for me

God for me!

There were many saying I head while growing up, such as “Don’t go out just after eating a sweet.” Or “Stop when a black cat crosses your way” or “Don’t cut your nails in the evening”. These sayings always intrigue me that what could be the possible reasons for such sayings, and I believe most of you would be thinking in the same way.

There could be scientific explanation to some of the sayings such as in earlier days when people, with no fast transportation, would be travelling for days, going out with sweet residue in mouth would lead to cavity in teeth. There could be other or better explanation to such sayings but what does it tell you?

I believe that in old good days there were bunch of extra ordinary talented people observing every small activity happening around them. The observation was such that they could find the real cause of such activities. However, they would have been found that it would be extremely difficult to explain the nuances of each activity to everybody and also the explanation would not last forever. Therefore, they devised the concept of good and jinx (aka in hindi Shubh & Ashubh).

These good extra ordinary talented people had made several saying and connected each activity with a good or a jinx. Such as don’t do this act as it will bring jinx to your life or do such act as it is auspicious and bring good to your life. I believe you all agree to this. The extension of such concept is God and Evil. I will explain further.

It is a fact that we all want happiness in our life. And how can we do that? By reducing the pain points and increasing the happy points in our life. Now we will analyze possible pain points and happy points which you would have been encountered.

Hanging out with your friends/loved once, having things what you want and enjoying power are some happy points. These all activities increase our happiness but the question is that are these happiness lasts for long period or they come with a baggage of pain points. To my understanding all such happiness comes with a pain such as loss of a thing/power you wanted or ignorance of your friends/loved once. Therefore, it can be construed that the happiness arises from such activities is not long lasting.

Also, the pain of losing something very important to you will lead to “non-acceptance” then to “Anger” and then to “action which can harm others”. ?We have all gone through this module and found out that the result is neither in the favor of self nor others.

This concept would be understood by the then good extra ordinary talented people as well. Therefore, to bring peace and to have sustainable growth of humanity, they would have devised a concept of Greater good later known as religion. Greater good is a concept where you act, keeping in mind that your actions should not harm others or rather it should be beneficial to the society at large. Adoption of this concept release a person from the selfish acts of having things for self-pleasure. Now the question is that how does this concept helps in increasing the happiness of an individual?

The greater good concept does not give as much happiness as it would be getting from having a thing you wanted. But the trick here is that the act for greater good gives you long lasting happiness with no pain baggage attached to it. I believe you are getting this.

Now again this concept was very difficult to explain and propagate further. Therefore, the good extra ordinary talented people would have attached the principles of greater good in the form of stories of God.

A small disclaimer: It is my personal opinion and is not to disrespect any individual/society/cast/ religion.
