God Is for Grown Ups.
Facing Your Shadows, Art by Lira Kay, Fragment.

God Is for Grown Ups.

"Materialism and activism is an addiction. A pattern. A blind pattern. And a pattern of blindness.

Within you you have both, greed and generosity, the need to co-create and to destroy.

And all of it is a distraction, only a part of the game, but not the destination.

Your conversation is with yourself. Your path is the path of growth and expansion.

You must sacrifice the parts of yourself that you judge.

What’s important is the act of sacrifice itself, not what you sacrifice.

Whether you throw yourself into pursuit or a fight against money and power, you will eventually let it go.?

You’ll get angry first.

Anger is a consequence of getting what you want and feeling dissatisfied all the same. One thing, a dream or a goal after another - but never enough.?

This feeling of not-enoughness inevitably projects as the mistrust of the world and its people. After all, they fail and disappoint you, as you struggle to get ahead.

Through that engagement - preoccupation with money and power - you will start experiencing your first feelings of shame. You compare yourself and you always loose.?

You need to experience the inadequacy before understanding or explaining it.?

This is the moment of awakening.?

The idea of sin, and feelings of shame and guilt drive us to grow. Grow out of our small thinking.?

As we fail to find the approval through chasing the external, we turn inwards.?

We turn to God.

We realize that God is the destination. A path. A method. And a purpose.

We humble ourselves.

We accept that there is God, and that we are not it.?

And here begins your new chapter.

Seeing money and power for what it is. A game you play to relate to others.?

But in your heart, only one question matters. How close you can get to the image and likeness of God?"

...

As I wrote these words in a flow, I received a question from my client, and my flow continued...

  • My energy and thoughts come alive around others and dissipate?alone
  • My depression bouts seem to come from self obsession and I procrastinate on things that are good for me

The answer:

"The game, the distraction - others, the people are my source.?

Alone I’m depressed. Alone I see I am not good enough.

Instead of arriving to - I don’t deserve good life… arrive to - I am not good enough comparing to where I’m going - to God.?

The humbling is what you are fighting.

As you associate ‘humble’ with ‘disempowered’.

While humbling is the saving grace.?

Freedom from perfectionism.?

From procrastination.

And a call to action. Your drive.

Your noble purpose.?

But what does it look like to be in the likeness of God?

You must define your God.?

So you know which direction to go.?

God is all powerful.

God has mercy.

God forgives.?

Every time you use your will power.

Every time you let go and start anew.

Willfully begin.

You are right."

You aptly describe how we can move from seeing the world through the lens of materialism to seeing it through a spiritual lens, one of wholeness, and connectedness.

Beautfiul article, Lira Kay. I agree with your depiction of growth. We go within. We let go of our individual concerns, thoughts, and worries. We connect with and find guidance from the Infinite. Thank you for the powerful insight!
