God Does Everything By Prayer and Nothing Without It

God does everything by prayer and nothing without it. This is the solemn responsibility that comes with the power we receive through prayer is placed on you. As 1 John reminds us, a true Christian loves their fellow brethren and must exercise this power on their behalf.

If anyone sees his brother?or sister?committing a sin not?leading?to death, he shall ask and?God?will, for him, give life to those who commit sin not?leading?to death. There is sin?leading?to death; I am not saying that he should ask about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not?leading?to death,” (1 John 5:16–17).

If you see a fellow believer committing sins and not repenting, it is your duty to pray for them. A backslider often won’t pray for themselves since their heart has gone cold, but as their brother or sister in Christ, you must step in and pray for them. God’s will is for them to give up sin, so when you pray on their behalf, God will answer.

But be aware, there is also a sin that leads to death — unbelief in Christ. This person is not a brother or sister in Christ like we see in verse 16, but they still need your prayers.

I can attest to the power of prayer in my own life. When I was lost and knew very little of Christ’s salvation, my friend and his Sunday School class prayed diligently for me over a long period of time. Their prayers were answered, and I was born again. God works through prayer, and my friend exercised this power on my behalf.

So, as a Christian, it is crucial to understand the power of prayer and your responsibility to use it for the good of your brothers and sisters in Christ.
