Goals of a proficiency test
Fahad AlMuhlaki
A Head of Proficiency Test Unit at Saudi Standard Metrology and Quality Organisation . P - member ISO TC-69 , ISO 9001 Lead Auditor
As described in the previous chapter, one of the goals of a
PT is to enable objective evaluation of laboratory performance.
This is the reason that in some countries the national
accreditation organisation organises PTs
But from the laboratory’s point of view, this is not the
only goal. Other relevant goals are in brief:
1-Comparison of own results with the results of other laboratories
by analysis of identical samples
2-Evaluation of trueness in cases where no certified reference
material is available
3-Quality improvement via corrective actions
Facilitation of training
