Goals, Grit, and Growth: Highlights from an Action-Packed Week

Goals, Grit, and Growth: Highlights from an Action-Packed Week

It’s been another action-packed week on and off the pitch for our club, and I’m excited to share all the latest updates with you.

The weekend kicked off in fine style as our U18 Girls delivered an outstanding 5-0 victory away at Dronfield. The team showcased tremendous commitment and determination, and it was a pleasure to hear the winning run was continuing.

The main event this week, was our Men’s First Team securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory at home against Eccleshill United FC. This result makes it back-to-back wins and keeps us firmly in the top half of the NCEL Premier standings as we approach the halfway point of the 2024/25 season. The lads put on a fantastic display, digging deep when needed and producing moments of breathtaking football. Truthfully, the scoreline could easily have been 3 or 4-0. I couldn’t be prouder of the team!

Unfortunately, the news wasn’t as positive for our Men’s Development Team, who suffered a defeat away at Staveley. It’s a challenging time for the team, but I have every confidence we’ll regroup, address the issues, and turn things around in the weeks ahead.

Sunday saw a full schedule for our Ladies’ teams. The Development Team picked up a point with a 1-1 draw away at Maltby, while our First Team fought hard for a 4-2 away win at Just Football after being 2-1 down at half time. Both performances highlight the spirit and commitment throughout our women’s setup, and I’m immensely proud of both teams.

Away from the action, it’s been a busy week for me and our incredible volunteers. With a week off work, I rolled up my sleeves to support the team in several key tasks. Together, we cleared a load of old equipment and made a trip to the recycle centre. We tidied, swept, and jet-washed the entrance area, giving it a fresh look. We also gave the stands and clubhouse balcony a thorough clean. By the end of the week, we had completed the final touches to the foundations of the new turnstile build, which is another step forward for the club’s infrastructure.

On Tuesday, we had Fast Lines on-site to re-mark the car park and apply legal yellow “keep clear” lines around the stadium. It was also the day we hosted the Fit Rovers group, which turned out to be a great success and generated valuable revenue for the club.

Superb Job Fast Lines

This week, I’ve also been working behind the scenes on a few key items. We’ve organised the switch to a new electricity supplier, addressed an ongoing issue with our WorldPay card machines, and ordered new goal nets, which our groundsman expertly installed ahead of Saturday’s game.

Looking ahead, this week promises to be just as busy and exciting. I’ll be at our Men’s First Team game on Wednesday evening as we face Campion away (weather permitting), and then it’s another away match on Saturday against Silsden FC in Bradford. On Friday, I’m planning to attend the Ladies’ training session, which I’ve missed for a few weeks and am eager to reconnect with.

Thank you all for your continued support. Whether on the pitch, in the stands, or behind the scenes, it’s the collective effort of our community that makes this club special. I’ll be back next week with more updates!
