Goals

We all have them, we all know that to succeed we must create them, but is it all about the end goal or is there something about the process of achieving goals that means more than the end result.
I’d like to bring to the floor Henry David Thoreau, American writer and philosopher, who offers a great point of interest to talk about –
‘What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.’
If we think about it, achieving a goal means we’ve earnt a pretty round figure, we’re driving that brand-new car, we’re indulging in the brand-new luxuries of our prime piece of real estate. But what about what happens before this? The challenging, the fight of endurance, the baby steps and the struggle that almost makes you give up. It’s not the achieved goals that show who you are; it’s the achieving of them that demonstrates your character and your dedication.
On reflection of the goals I have achieved, I don’t deny the satisfaction and pride that has come from gaining the result. However, in hindsight what is potentially more inspiring is who I became and the things I found I was capable of in the process of striving for them. In the end, those skills, insights and to be blunt – guts- I found is what now follows me on my path to the next bigger and better thing. So, what about you?
