A Goal Without a Plan is a Wish

What are your business goals for this year? It's not enough to set the goals, you also need to figure out how you are going to get there. When you're a small business you wear many hats, and I know the marketing one isn't always the most comfortable for many business owners. But the reality is, your customers and audience expects to find you online and do business with you there. The web, social media, and the shift to mobile devices have transformed the way we live, work, shop, and do business. Consumers have integrated the web into their everyday lives and activities, and expect that your business has done the same.?

I always have the best intentions when a new year comes along to really dive into looking at where my business has been, what we can do better, what we want to accomplish in the new year, and how we will get there.

The challenge for me is really setting aside the dedicated time that it takes to do that when we are so focused on serving our clients needs. Maybe you struggle with this too. I know many of you that I speak to have expressed that you don't have a written out marketing plan to achieve your business goals. Aside from time, another obstacle is not knowing what to put into a plan that will be manageable for you and work to get results. That is why we created our Digital Marketing Live! event so we can help you get that plan done and achieve your goals!

When creating your plan, you want to focus on three key elements: get visibility, get traffic and get results. Our event starts Friday and you still have time to register. One thing I know is that to serve others at the highest level, you have to take the time for yourself too. What's true on an airplane, "put your oxygen mask on first," is also true for your business.

I encourage you to make this the year your marketing works for you by developing a plan that is manageable and focuses on getting you to your goals. Consistency builds traction, but that consistency doesn't happen without a plan. We've seen it time and time again which is why I often remind myself of the quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, "A goal without a plan is a wish."
