In the fast-paced world of today, the importance of being in sync with the progress of the professional world surely cannot be avoided. Right from bagging a well deserving job to targeting progress in the work domain, setting the right goal is definitely the commencing point of the professional journey.
To be specific, goal setting encompasses lining a plan of action truly rooted to guide and motivate personals and a group of professionals towards a specific goal. Being a star component of management literature, goal setting is intended towards fuelling one’s performance with the target set distinct and clear. With the focus squarely on purpose no matter how much tough the process of achieving the goal is, it is definitely a relief that the catalyzing factor is strong.
But it is surely interesting to note that setting goals are much easier than actually fulfilling them. The simplest reason most personals fail to complete their journey of achieving their goals is their lack of seriousness. Many a time inadequate motivation limits them in keeping up the zeal. Again walking the road with non-specific vague goals can lead to unwanted scatter. Distraction often acts as a speed breaker in the path of achievement. Additionally, the inability to handle failure and hitting back hard leads to failure. Thus, the weight given on focussing on achieving the target with 100% commitment and eliminating all excuses must be robust.
Thus, it is extremely important to follow the right path to successfully utilizing the goal setting.
- Commitment - Giving 100% to what you have planned and performing action required to fulfill that goal is a must.
- Clarity of purpose - Asking why is very important, if we do not know why have we set a goal then there is no attachment towards achieving it nor any clarity which means very soon we will lose our interest and stop performing activities to achieve the same.
- Accepting and facing the challenges - You took an effort to set a goal to achieve something coz it's not normal, its something bigger that you want in life, it is about the growth you are looking for, it is about the extraordinary experience you want to have it, so hence and so forth... So if your goals are higher and out of your regular reach then can we agree that it will have a lot of difficulties & challenges that we might have to face. Accepting it helps one to be prepared to face the challenges that might come across.
- The complexity of the process At times the path to reach your goal is very complex. The process required is long, difficult, and full of hurdles, don't let yourself restricted by it. 1st Step is important and thereafter one step at a time and all the complex processes will be smooth flow. lastly
- Self-evaluation at all stages - Most important is being aware of your strength & weakness. Knowing your capabilities will help you plan better.
The above attributes form the five key elements for successfully achieving the goal.
If done well by taking into consideration all the important aspects, you have completed one of the biggest tasks to achieve your dreams and at the end of the exercise - You have a list of Goals. It's more like a plan, and as we say plan without execution is of no use so start preparing the action plan and get into the action.
