Goal setting (the old ones are the best)
It’s Friday and It’s been an amazing week so far! Before I recap on what is for me, week 3 heading up the sales and marketing for RoninPentest, I want to take a moment to reflect on the importance of setting goals and what’s worked for me.
I’m not sure who said “if it isn’t written down it won’t happen” but it’s become one of the most important lessons in goal setting for me over the last two decades.
Whether our Goals are personal or commercial (or as many business owners will know, it can be a combination of both) it’s important to have clarity in your mind and a clear and measurable path to your end goal.
Now I’m officially “middle aged” (reliably and regularly informed this is the case by my children !) I can safely say that sometimes the “old ones are the best” and in many instances there really is no need to try and reinvent the wheel when planning, or indeed life in general. The following are two great examples of this.
Firstly, to make sure your plan has the best chance of success, use the S.M.A.R.T. acronym to help plan and implement your goal (see post image)
For my fellow “more experienced” colleagues out there, I make no apology for teaching you to “suck eggs” and have found that by “going back to basics” when goal setting has really worked for me at 46, and this can be applied in any type of goal setting or planning in general.
Secondly, for any goal to succeed a positive mindset and belief in yourself is key to success.
This is achieved by people in many different ways, prayer, meditation, mindfulness and indeed some seem naturally positive in general. For those of you who haven’t found your “positivity” just yet, I’d recommend reading a book that I’m sure most self help and life coaches on here’s principles are loosely based on
“Psycho-cybernetics”
For those that haven’t heard of it, it originally was written in the 1960’s and has become central to many self help methodologies developed thereafter and even today.
I’m not on commission so I’ll let you locate the book however you wish, but give it a chance and I guarantee if you follow it for 21 days you will have greater clarity on the power of a positive mindset, if not how it just seems to work!!
It’s a cheap alternative for someone who would benefit from a life coach but can’t afford one right now.
I hope that some of you get some value from this post, if anyone needs guidance on this or any other sales related matter please drop me a message and will be happy to help if within my skill set.
Thanks for reading this and be back later with a re-cap of my first 3 weeks and plans for the next!

3 年Maybe the reason why say "write your goals down" is because we, not on purpose, tend to forget it or get overwhelmed due to the amount of information being thrown at us every minute..
