Goal Setting

Goal Setting

The truth is, setting a goal is the easy part….

We literally do it every day…..

We make these “promises” to ourselves that we’ll work towards improving our fitness, education, relationships, etc.?

Unfortunately, we break most of the “promises” to ourselves — and usually, it’s because of this one reason…..

Accountability!

Most people won’t share their goals with anyone because they don’t want to be held accountable…..and I’ve been guilty of this for the following reasons:

?? I was embarrassed to share my goals

?? I didn’t want to be vulnerable?

?? I didn’t want anyone putting pressure on me

So when I failed to achieve my goals, I was able to:

?? Rationalize my failures?

?? Make excuses for my behavior

?? Blame others and circumstances?

With that being stated, I want to share some key notes on Goal Setting:

  1. Define your goal — this should be specific, measurable with a tangible outcome, and have a suspense date.
  2. Know where you are right now — conduct a self-assessment and identify your instrumental, internal, and intrinsic motivation.
  3. Identify what you need to develop — based on your self-assessment, what areas do you need to prioritize and allocate more time, energy, and focus towards??
  4. Make a steady plan for improvement — this plan should be specific, measurable, action-focused, realistic, and time-bound.
  5. Pursue regular action — what will you leverage to keep you actively engaged with your goal?
  6. Commit yourself completely — how will you maintain your drive and motivation through challenges and periods of adversity?
  7. Continuously monitor your progress — how often will you check to ensure you are still on track with your goal?
  8. Accountability — who will you share your goal with? It’s easy to fall off track on your goals when you’re the only one you have to answer to.
  9. Don’t quit — the road to success is full of pit-stops, pit-falls, and self-pity — but success cannot resist the temptation of consistency and persistence.

In life, “You Will Fail” — and when you do it’s imperative that you do not hope for things to get easier — but instead, you harness a desire for you to be better.
