Goal Setting: Human Design: Manifesting Generators

It was 2015 and I was getting my second Human Design reading with the maverick - John Martin.?
I invited him to “slap me aroundâ€. I needed it. I loved human design but wasn’t living it and it was obvious. My hope was that this final slapping around if you will was going to be the push I needed to finally get in integrity and use the knowledge and get aligned.
At that time, I was FULL of ANGER and FRUSTRATION. I was WAY off course. I was living other people’s lives in his words because of the open functions/centers in my design and the power of the conditioning and mental monologue speaking from there.?
FYI I have the “open head/inspiration and open emotional intelligence/solar plexus†for those of you that are familiar with the system.
AND...
I am WIDE open in the solar plexus which has been my Achilles heel for most of my life. Also the area where i am “going to schoolâ€.
I was living out of the white parts of the chart versus the colored parts.?
I asked him all sorts of questions that day, but the one thing that hit me HARD and hits most manifesting generators or builders HARD is this:
GOAL setting is mental masturbation.?
Yeah…
That year I signed up to become certified in human design but on the business and career side of things because its less esoteric.?
I am in year 8 of my experience with this and I finally get it.?
To set a goal is a mental activity. To succumb to that and go chasing a goal is to succumb to the mind and it’s command to “go and get†or “go and be†and so on.?
Whose commands are these??
It’s the polar opposite of what human design is all about.?
The mind could never know where the body is headed. The mind can never know our path and most importantly it has no way of accessing our truth.?
Yet daily we use it to guide us as “MGs, ManiGens, Builders, Express Buildersâ€.

Which adds more anger and frustration to our lives individually and this planet collectively.
Don’t get me wrong, we all have something we are excited about, things we want to be, do or have but if we do it correctly, it’s ALL in response for my type.
Our type is famous for “going out and making it happen†versus responding. I ought to know. I have several decades in the practice.?
Response.?
We are built to respond. This requires waiting.
I know, waiting sucks.
Waiting is a bad word in America.
"Lazy people wait" is the agreed upon conditioning, yet we ask our kids to do it.
And this is the hardest part for our type to get through their minds and apply.?
On the other side of that - living in response is a life without resistance and static.?
No goal needed.??
Nothing to go and get.?
It’s all coming towards you.?
Don't believe me. DO IT and see for yourself. Nothing to believe here.

10 个月I wonder how the (now finished) long transit through 36 affected your life's experience? Was it dramatic?

11 个月I'm new to human design and I am a Manifesting Generator. I relate to the anger and frustration when you're off course. I also have no patience so the waiting period is hard for me. I'm learning I have to use my gut and respond to life as it comes to me.

1 年Brilliant article Rob. I resonate with this article so much - and this is the first year in working with clients to not do a goal setting process. Instead I’m helping clients focus on being more of their genius with their BG5 design! I facilitated a Personal Bests coaching session with a team recently where we reflected on last year to mine some natural bests they produced and combined it with design. And these are now a menu of options, not mental prescriptions of goals. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! You bring immense value!

1 å¹´Goal setting in a reality of infinite possibilities can be a bit of a frustrating endeavor, especially for people who have diversified interests. That noted, to live a life of purpose does, to some degree, require that we take aim for achieving some state of future that yields a product from our choice to engage and make some type of difference in terms of how the future unfolds. Your article is deeply thought provoking. We are here. We must do something. What shall we do? Let's do what inspires us!
